THIS MONTH'S FOCUS

The content of this stage in the campaign is described in the briefing on the linked page, please distribute it to all your contacts and to the local media.

The focus of this month, the second month in the six month campaign, is to describe what is meant by the term dementia and how it relates to normal ageing, and to Alzheimer’s Disease and the linked text and podcast provide more detail

Because this is the module launched in December we are also offering the DRRXL  THE DEMENTIA RISK REDUCTION CHRISTMAS LIST

Dear Children and Grandchildren

We don’t want to appear ungrateful for your generosity in the past or too pushy about Christmas, and birthday presents to come, but we though you might welcome some ideas to make choosing easier, and less time consuming

But we are now getting ready for the new year and we have read a lot about the benefits of activity, physical and mental, and how we can even reduce the risk of dementia. So we are planning a New Year’s Revolution, never mind a New Year’s Resolution, and there are gifts that could help us reduce the risk of dementia, and other nasties, and  live independently for longer and be less of a bloody nuisance to you in the years to come

Please, no more Wine or Choccies or Softy Slippers we would prefer

  • To increase our stamina and keep our blood vessels healthy
    • A new pair of trainers for running or boots for the Ramblers or a new electric front wheel like the Swytch  to get back on the bike or a Peleton to ride with you

  • To increase strength
    • A set of resistance bands or a set of weights

  • To increase skill and reduce the risk of a fall
    • dance lessons, Latin American or Scottish please

  • To increase suppleness
    • Some lessons from a trainer or a teacher of yoga , tai chi or pilates

  • To increase our brain power
    • Some learning from Goldster or Learning with Experts or the Open University

But remember we think that you have always spent too much on us in times past and in present times you need to think of your own needs first – inflation and heating costs are terrifying and our preference would be for you to dig us out at least once a week for a good brisk walk, but your time is another scarce resource we know

Whatever you decide be reassured we are going to become more active mentally and physically to reduce the need for and cost of social care, which we are VERY keen to avoid

Lots of Love from Mum and Dad
